Welcome to the Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall Web Site (This Page last Updated on 3rd June 2026)
Thank you for your interest in our village hall, a key amenity in the village and home to the Abbotts Ann Nursery School and the Abbotts Ann Players.

The Hall offers excellent facilities, including a large, well-equipped kitchen, overhead projector, Bluetooth sound system and a separate Meeting Room. It is available for bookings by individuals and businesses in Abbotts Ann and surrounding area.

A Second Successful Grant Application

Following the successful completion of Phase 1 of our refurbishment work, we have now heard that our recent application for a grant for Phase 2 from the TVBC Community Asset Fund has been successful. We will therefore soon be embarking on this work, which will cost £28,824.49, and for which we have a grant of £14,412.24.

Phase two will cover:

  • Replace four wooden external doors – kitchen and store to the rear, main entrance to side and fire exit to the front of the building – with double-glazed units to make the building weathertight.
  • Replace the fencing and gates around of the grounds to improve the safety particularly to safeguard the children of the nursery school
  • Replace old curtains/blinds with black-out blinds to four windows at the front of the Hall (matching those already installed on stage) for productions and presentations in the main Hall.
  • Replace the Stage Curtain.

HIBBERT AND LIDDELL CUPS 2026/27 – NOMINATIONS PLEASE

These cups are awarded annually on the first Saturday in September, which this year will be 5th September 2026. Past winners are all named HERE for the Liddell Cup and HERE for the Hibbert Cup along with being in frames in the War Memorial Hall.

The Hibbert Cup is awarded for outstanding, voluntary, unpaid contribution to the Abbotts Ann community in honour of Basil Hibbert, who himself made an outstanding contribution to our community. A bench in memory of Basil stands outside the village shop.

Last year the worthy winner of the Hibbert Cup was Jane Wiggs in recognition of his service to the village.  Thank you Jane for all you do.  This year’s winner will be the 25th holder of the Hibbert Cup.

The Liddell Cup is awarded on the same basis for the leader of a specific village project completed in the past year. It is awarded in honour of Andrew Liddell, whose own contribution is still fresh in our village memory. The next holder will be the 8th holder of the Liddell Cup.  The cup was not awarded in 2025.

The decisions are made by the Trustees of the War Memorial Hall, which Basil chaired for many years. In making the decisions, the Trustees also consult with the current holders of the Cups.

All nominations (including all past unsuccessful nominations) are considered with great care, and any village resident may make a nomination for either or both cups.

Please submit your nominations on the form HERE

Closing date for nominations is Friday 21st August. Please remember that your nomination must be yours alone – no groups please – so that it is absolutely confidential. Please keep your nomination secret as it would be most inappropriate in our Abbotts Ann family for the names of unsuccessful nominees to be known, and to be open for discussion.

News about the Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall

Just wanted to share some news about the Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall. As you might know, the recent musical evening with Daisy Chute and Lucy May Walker was a great success and we’re planning more exciting events at the moment so please watch this space. We will be reviving the village tradition of holding Apple Day in the autumn where we all bring apples to the hall, pop them in the press that’s in the hall garden, drink freshly pressed apple juice and play games. If anyone would like to join a small group organising the event, please just give me a shout.

The War Memorial Hall is a tremendous resource at the heart of the village, as you can see from the virtual tour that’s now on the website [add website link]. But the Hall is facing some tough financial challenges. We have a leaky roof and there’s quite a long list of other things that need maintaining. Thanks to Mark, Karen and Simon for ensuring that there’s a good quality temporary repair to the roof which means that we can continue to use the Hall during wet weather. The problem is that unfortunately the funds that we’ve got set aside for such eventualities isn’t sufficient to cover everything. We are therefore setting up an appeal to raise funds for the roof repairs so that we can keep this great facility at the heart of the village now and for generations to come.

As the War Memorial Hall Committee, our request to you as villagers is that you use the hall for your functions and events and also help us by donating to the roof appeal. Our target is raising £10k. We know that times are tough economically and inflation is a real worry, but even donating small amounts makes a massive difference.

We will of course keep you posted

We would like to welcome everyone to our new web site for the Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall more commonly known as the village hall.
